Renukaji temple and Lake is a beautiful place in Himachal, dense with hills and alpine forest. It is so peaceful. We enjoyed spending the morning there.

Legend has it that thousands of years ago a powerful king, Sahasrarjuna, killed Maharishi Jamdagni, the ascetic husband of Renuka Devi. There is a belief that the devoted saintly lady jumped into the lake to escape from falling prey to the lust of the tyrant king.; though she did not die. When Parashurama, the invincible son of Renuka and Jamdagni, learnt about the whole episode from his mother Renuka, he marched towards the kingdom of Sahasrarjuna and exterminated the whole race. According to Puranas, the Renuka Tirth is considered as birthplace of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
