Maldivian Island-Ukulhas – 1
Aditi Ghosh
Today and tomorrow are my ‘work away from office day’, popularly known as WfH where H is necessarily not Home! Enjoying this small, quiet, green Maldivian island called Ukulhas. After a 1-hour flight from Colombo and then a 1.5-hour drive by speed boat from Male Airport. I am in Ukulhas. Its snow-white sand beach looks like a pearl in the ocean from the boat. This island is just 1km in length and 225m in width at the widest point and is surrounded by clear lagoons and amazing coral reefs. You can take a stroll on the entire island in just 30 minutes. This is an inhabited island that gives you a vibe of local Maldivian culture which I feel missing in some of its resort-only islands (as you see in the Instagram posts of celebrities).
If you are looking for tranquil work or holiday like me or enjoy diving, fishing, and swimming without a crowd of fellow tourists, Ukulhas might be the destination you’re looking for. Opened to tourism only in late 2012, Ukulhas was recognized as an environmental role model island in the Maldives and achieved the ‘Green Leaf Award’ in the year 2014.
