Maldivian Island-Ukulhas – 2

Ukullhsas is such a small island that from a little height (rooftop) you can see the entire island and endless water all around you. It is a unique experience. I had never been to such a tiny island before. Hearing Maldives conjures up images of luxury huts overlooking an aqua-blue ocean. It is almost 99% sea. However, it is the lowest nation in the world and is highly threatened by rising seas. To highlight the pressing issue of climate change, the cabinet of the Maldives held an underwater meeting making it the first country in the world to hold a governmental meeting on scuba. Maldivians are so at home with water, that they only can think of such an amazing idea!
In Ukulhas, you can have the entire beach to yourself. Moreover, this is off-peak season. After dinner when Rajesh settled for his black coffee, I went for a long walk on the beach. The experience of walking alone on the beach on a full moon night was just mesmerizing. As if the vast sky, mighty ocean, and the wet sand under my feet all are dissolving into one another and a consciousness within me transcending all boundaries. ছোটবেলার শোনা সে এক গানের মতো ‘নিজেরে হারায়ে খুঁজি’ !
