Dr Shekhar Pathak noted environmentalist and historian says, “This well-researched and visually rich book will make you a friend of birds and the Himalayas.” Noted naturalist and wildlife photographer Anup Shah says, ”It gives me immense pleasure to see such descriptive illustrations with precise text on the birds of this region. This book stands out as it has been compiled in both Hindi and English, enabling even a layman to study the wonderful diversity of birds. I would like to congratulate Leafbird Foundation and every individual who has contributed to making this book possible.”A project which started as a response to a demand made by villagers during our training camps to have a bird guide in Hindi on local birds ended up becoming a full-fledged field guide on the birds of Uttarakhand, covering more than 450 species of birds and with a beautiful hand-painted illustration.
This is the first book to focus exclusively and comprehensively on the birds of this region. What makes it more special is in both Hindi and English. It took a community of artists, collaborators and well-wishers to make this happen. Most of the work was done on a voluntary basis, for the love of nature and the mountains. Following that there was a community of donors who made the publication of this book possible. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Leafbird Foundation and will fund our future projects.
